Dear Colleagues, Parents, Pupils, Governors and Alumnae
Climate Emergency Meeting: 5th March 2020
The report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states that urgent and unprecedented changes are needed to reach the target set by the Paris agreement of 2015 to keep the rise in global temperatures between 1.5 and 2 degrees. In May, the government declared a climate emergency; Hammersmith and Fulham Council followed suit by declaring a climate emergency in July. In light of this, we would like to consult you about how the Schools on the Earsby Street site should respond.
Interested parties are invited to attend a meeting on 5th March 2020 at 6.30pm to discuss and propose possible options: for example, setting a date for us to have net zero carbon emissions. We envisage that we would then research and cost the various options and hold further meetings to draw up an action plan for the Schools.
If you would like to be involved in this initiative, please join this Telegram Broadcast group https://t.me/joinchat/
Additionally, if you have expertise in this field, either professionally or as an activist, we would like to work with five people to frame some questions for the initial meeting. Please contact Bertie Cairns on b.cairns@sjsg.org.uk if you could assist us with this.
With best wishes
Sarah Labram and Catherine Thomlinson
